Cloudkicker is Ben Sharp, an instrumental progressive metal musician from Colombus, Ohio. Ben Sharp began writing music under the moniker BM Sharp, or Ben the Sharp, In 2005. He began releasing short, ambient tracks, for free download around once a week. He began releasing material under the pseudonym Cloudkicker in 2008, beginning with his first full-length album The Discovery for free. Ben describes his style of music as “listenable” and not related to any particular musical scene, yet somehow I heard some similiar post-metal sounds just like Isis’ or Long Distance Calling’s.
Ben been very productive, two releases every year since 2008. His latest digital album released early this month, the album titled Fade and will be available soon on CD and LP. You can stream and download it for free below the post.
As Ben already commited “not to make anything that’s bullshit while also not creating the same thing over and over again”, he’s adding new instrument for Fade that give us some fresh sounds. His ultra-tight gridlock between the drums and guitars composition retained, also layers upon layers of atmospheric melody of the angular riffing and the mechanical rhythmic patterns. Advance musician might want to peek his list of instruments.
Since the post is about Fade, I’ll give you some tracks to start. Seattle been very ambient, a 10 minutes mind blowing track that I recommend you to listen. I can also said that Our Crazy Night with its sweet intro are pretty smooth and easy. I recommend you to download the EP, there’s a hidden-track that doesn’t available to stream.
